Online Friends Are Great and Can Be Real. I’m Dating One Now.
First, always meet your online friends (for the first few times) in a public area with someone accompanying you. It’s always safer and smarter. If something feels weird, run the fuck out of there.
I met my boyfriend online. When I tell people this, they all go:
“Like, a dating website?”
No, you fool. I’m a geek. We met on an Anime Forum/Website and had been talking to each other for 3 years before meeting in person. I’ve been dating him for the next 4 years. So in total, we’ve known each other for 7 years now.
So yes, online friends can be real and in this society, sometimes it’s the only way to find friends in this busy world. In my depression, only the people that shared the same interest as I did could comfort me. It’s hard to look for friends in the real world when you’re depressed and loathing human contact. So online friends are a blessing in this digital world.
Long distance relationships can suck, but if you are anti-social, like I was, it wouldn’t really matter as much to you. A visit once every 3-6 months sufficed for about 4 years before we moved in together. Note that he was in a totally different country from me… So the transition was hard and annoying, but we all make sacrifices.
HE OWES ME FOR LIFE!
